Robert Heffernan and Brendan Boyce make Olympic qualifying standard for 50k walk

Rob Heffernan has qualified for a fifth consecutive Olympic Games following a fourth-place finish in the 50km event at the IAAF Race Waking Challenge meeting in Slovakia.

The Corkman clocked a time of 3:48:44. Brendan Boyce, who finished fifth in a time of 3:48.55, also secured the qualification mark for the Rio Games.

Both walkers also met the standard for this summer's World Championship in Beijing.
