Approximately 15,000 participants are taking to the streets of Ireland's capital for the 35th running of the Dublin Marathon.

Weather conditions appear favourable for the event: the forecast is dry, cloudy, mild and earlier winds appear to be dying down.

Russia's Dimitriy Safronov is the favourite for the men’s race and Kenya's Esther Macheria is the fastest female athlete in the field.

Last year’s winner and the national champion Sean Hehir will not be competing, but Maria McCambridge is back to defend the women’s national title.
