Robert Heffernan, who is targeting the 50km walk at the 2012 London Games, produced another solid performance at the IAAF World Cup of Race Walking in Saransk, Russia, finishing in 12th place in 1 hour 21 minutes 51 seconds.

Brendan Boyce, who has dipped inside the Olympic qualification standard for the 50km walk on two occasions, finished in 65th place in 1:27.

Kate Veale finished an impressive sixth in the 10km junior walk. The world youth champion, who will sit her Leaving Cert exams in a few weeks, crossed the line in 46:53, just off her personal best of 46:32.

In the same race, Emma Prendeville finished 45th, while Luke Hickey was 54th, and James Treanor was 59th in the junior men's 10km race.

In action tomorrow will be Olive Loughnane and Laura Reynolds in the women’s 20km race. While Jamie Costin and Colin Griffin will be targeting the Olympic standard in the men’s 50km race.
