Fionnuala Britton (Kilcoole AC) finished in fifth place in the 2012 Stanford Invitational in a personal best time of 15:28.22.
The time left Britton only eight seconds outside the Olympic A standard of 15:20.00, but inside the B standard of 15:30.00.
Britton stayed with the leaders for the majority of the race, only losing touch in the closing stages.
Jackie Areson (Nike) was the eventual winner in a time of 15:18.31.
Fresh from his Irish and European road best from the previous weekend, Alistair Cragg (Clonliffe Harriers AC) was back in action.
Cragg placed sixth in the 1,500m in 3:42.00, and fourth in the 5,000m in 13:32.76, in what was a very busy evening for the highly talented Cragg.
Other Irish athletes impressing on the night were Brendan O’Neill (Dundrum South Dublin AC), who recorded a time of 29:28 in the men’s 10k, while Anthony Lieghio (Tallaght AC) finished eighth in the 1,500m in 3:49.07.
Kerry Harty (Newcastle AC) impressed in the women’s 1,500m, finishing fifth in a time of 4:18.81.
Rounding off a great evening for Irish athletes, David Flynn (Clonliffe Harriers AC) and Tomas Cotter (Dunleer AC), recorded times of 8:49.24 and 8:51.88 respectively in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase.
Michelle Finn (Western Kent) clocked 10:14.09 for third place in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase.
