Ireland's Thomas Chamney failed to qualify from his 800m heat at the World Championships in Berlin after his chances of advancing were undone by some physical contact with Sudan's Ismail Ahmed Ismail coming off the final bend.

Chamney forced his way into contention with a solid start which saw him fourth off the first bend and part of the main pack of six coming into the bend.

However, an over-zealous attack from Ismail saw Chamney unsteadied and push the Sudanese runner, who went on to qualify third behind the USA's Nick Symmonds, in a winning time of 1:47.12secs. Belal Mansoor Ali from Brunei finished second.

Next up for the Irish is Eileen O’Keeffe, who will be hoping to qualify for the final of the Hammer as she throws at 12.45pm, while Alistair Cragg will run in heats of the 5,000m at 5.55pm.
