Derval O'Rourke immediately set her sights on 12.5 seconds after just missing out on a bronze medal in the 100m Hurdles at the World Championships in Berlin last night.
The Leevale star set a new Irish record of 12.67secs from lane one to finish in fourth place ahead of Olympic champion Dawn Harper and former World champion Perdita Felicien.
Although delighted with her unexpected placing, the 28-year-old admitted in today's Irish Independent: 'When I made the final I didn't want to be a token lane there. I wanted to represent myself really well and keep my head. I always think I'm as good as every other girl on my day.
'But, in a way, I'm glad it was 12.55 to 12.67 in front of me, it's not like I was pipped by a couple of hundredths and 12.5 is where I've got to be next.'
Jamaica's Brigette Foster-Hylton took the gold medal in a time of 12.51 ahead of Canada's Priscilla Lopes-Schliep (12.54) and Delloreen Ennis-London of Jamaica (12.55).
O'Rourke added: 'Fourth at Worlds! Imagine if you'd told me that last year at the Olympics! I know I can win a world medal if I put my whole race together, I really think I can win the damn thing!'
