Sprinter Dwain Chambers, who is unable to run in most athletics meetings because of his doping history, has been included in Britain's team for next month's European Indoor Championships in Turin.

The 30-year-old, who was banned for two years after testing positive for the banned steroid THG in 2003, sealed his place with a time of 6.51sec in the trials and will start as favourite for the 60m gold.

His main rival is expected to be fellow Briton Simeon Williamson, who clocked 6.53sec in Birmingham at the week and is the second fastest European over the distance this year.

'Things are going very nicely for me right now,' Williamson said. 'I really put in a lot of hard work this winter in Jamaica and back here in the UK with my coach Lloyd Cowan.

'I'm getting faster and faster as the year goes on and I'm feeling very confident I can be faster still for Turin.'

Chambers is severely restricted in the number of events he can compete in because of the zero-tolerance anti-doping policy of the EuroMeets Consortium which organises many meetings.

He is also barred from competing in the Olympics under British team rules but he is expected to run at the World Championships in Berlin in August.
