David Gillick has finished sixth in the 400 metres at the Golden League meeting in Rome.
Gillick posted a time of 45.52 seconds, which was four tenths of a second of outside the Irish record he set recently in France.
Jeremy Wariner continued his dominance at this distance by winning in 44.36 seconds, but was pressed very hard for victory by fellow American LaShawn Merritt.
Also at the meeting, Asafa Powell suffered an injury scare when he pulled up during the 100 metres. The former world record holder strained his groin during the sprint but still finished in a time of 10.19 seconds.
Meanwhile, Russia's world and Olympic pole vault champion Yelena Isinbayeva set a world record of 5.03 metres. The 26-year-old also held the previous record of 5.01, which she set at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki.
