Irish Sports Council announce grants

The Irish Sports Council have announced grants totalling almost €12million for a total of 57 governing bodies in Irish sport for the next year.

Among the major beneficiaries are Special Olympics Ireland, who will receive just over E2.8million.

Swim Ireland were awarded €640,000, while Tennis Ireland were another of the big beneficiaries, receiving €436,000.

The Sport Council also announced a separate grant of €1.57million solely for women in sport.

Athletics Ireland Chief Executive Brendan Hackett welcomed today's announcement of a core grant of over €1.3 million for his association.

Hackett is happy with the allocation for this year. 'We have always received considerable support from the Government through the Irish Sports Council.  This year is no different and our funding is again at a high level,' he said.

'It is now up to us as an Association to find ways of generating additional income and we can do this through increased membership and sponsorship.'
