Asafa Powell has set a new world record in the 100metres after running 9.74 seconds at the Rieti Grand Prix.
Jamaican Powell broke his own mark of 9.77sec in one of the heats.
He held the previous record of 9.77sec - a mark he achieved on three occasions - alongside American Olympic champion Justin Gatlin.
The 24-year-old finished third in the recent World Championships in Osaka behind rival Tyson Gay and Derrick Atkins.
Powell had predicted in Stockholm at the beginning of August that he felt he was capable of beating the world record this year.
When asked about his physical limits, he said they were around '9.74 or 9.73, even below 9.70.'
