Tyson Gay completed a stunning sprint double when he ran the second fastest 200metres in history at the USA Track & Field Championships.

The 24-year-old followed up his effort of 9.84seconds in the 100metres - the fastest in the world this year and a championship record - by producing a time of 19.62secs in the 200m.

The time is second only to the world record of 19.32 set by Michael Johnson at the 1996 Athens Olympics and puts the Lance Brauman-coached athlete on course for an attempt at the sprint double at this year's World Championships in August in Osaka.

Gay finished fourth in the 200m at the last World Championships in Helsinki two years ago as the Americans claimed a clean sweep of the first four places.
