Joint 100 metres world record holders Justin Gatlin and Asafa Powell will not now meet at Gateshead in England next month, according to reports from America.
Gateshead officials thought they had pulled off a huge coup by pitting the two sprint sensations against each other in the north east on June 11.
However, it now appears that the clash will not take place.
Powell achieved his record of 9.77seconds last June and Gatlin matched it a fortnight ago, after originally being credited with a time of 9.76sec.
They last met on the track at the Norwich Union London Grand Prix last July when Powell after running an impressive 10.02sec in his semi-final - pulled up after just a few strides in the final with the recurrence of a groin problem.
In the final, Gatlin set a UK all-comers record of 9.89sec, while Powell's injury brought his season to a premature close and dashed his World Championships ambitions.
Their only other 2005 clash saw Gatlin win by a whisker at the Prefontaine Classic Grand Prix in Eugene last May, when both men were given the same time - a windy 9.84sec.
The two sprinters are due to contest different events at this year's Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, today.
