Ireland's James Nolan continued his great start to the season by achieving the World Indoor Championship qualifying standard in Ghent on Sunday.

The Offaly man shaved eight seconds off his personal best for the 3000 metres by clocking 7 minutes, 52.84 seconds for ninth at the KBC Indoor event. Moroccan Adil Kaouch won in a time of 7:44.22.

Nolan's Belgian trip was worth it as he has now secured his place in both the 1500m and the 3000m for the World Indoors, which take place in Moscow from March 10 to 12.

Also in Ghent, Dubliner Ciara Sheehy claimed the 200 metres in 23.44 seconds. At the Birmingham Games, David McCarthy of Celbridge concluded his preparations for the Worlds by winning the 400m in 47.02 seconds.
