Ireland's Sonia O'Sullivan has been given the green light to run for Australia in the Commonwealth Games, according to Australian media reports.

The Cobh native has been given permission to compete for her adopted homeland by the Commonwealth Games Federation, according to The Age newspaper.

The 36-year-old O'Sullivan, who has two Australian children by her partner and manager Nic Bideau, was granted citizenship last week.

She will still be able to compete for Ireland in this year's European Championships in August.

Nigerian sprinter Ambrose Ezenwa has similarly been cleared to compete for the host nation in Melbourne.
