Derval O'Rourke smashed the Irish record as she finished second in her heat of the 60metres hurdles in today's European Indoor Championships in Madrid.
O'Rourke lowered her own mark by a 0.04secs when clocking 8.02secs behind Jenny Kallur, who flew to a personal best of 7.92secs.
Behind the Swede, Diane Allahgreen, 1998 bronze medallist, also qualified for tomorrow's semi-final in 8.05secs.
Ireland's Peter Coghlan, however, failed to qualify from his heat in the men's 60m hurdles when he finished fifth in a time of 7.28 seconds.
