Ireland's Alistair Cragg and Mark Carroll have qualified for tomorrow's 3000metres final at the European Indoor Championships in Madrid.
Cragg finished his heat first in a time of 7min 54.91 secs with Somalian-born Briton Mohamed Farah second on his senior international track debut in a time of 7mins 54.99secs.
Former champion Carroll ran in the second heat and qualified in fourth place.
Ailish McSweeney, Emily Meagher and Ger O'Donaghue failed to progress from the heats of the 60m sprints.
Meanwhile, David Gillic looked very impressive as he won his 400m semi-final in 46.17 seconds. Gillic is now the second fastest European in the world this year.
Elsewhere, James Nolan did not fare as well, finishing ninth in his 1500m heat and well outside the qualifying positions.
In the women's high-jump Ireland's Deidre Ryan claimed a best clearance of 1.83m but on countback finished equal 14th.
