James Nolan placed fifth in the 1500 metres at the Heusden Grand Prix in Belgium as he continued his preparations for the World Championships later this month. The Offaly man recorded a time of three minutes 35.69 seconds in a race dominated by Kenyans.
Isaac Songok was first home in a time of 3:31.54 and was followed home by three of his fellow countryman, Benjamin Kipkurui (3:32.42), Robert Rono (3:33.78) and Laban Rotich (3:33.78).
Maura Prenderville was the top Irish finisher of the night when placing third with a time of 2:45.73 in her 1,000m race. Victory was claimed by Olympic 1500 metres gold medallist Nouria Merah-Benida, a runaway winner in a time of of 2:37.49.
Over 5,000 metres, Cathal Lombard was fifth in 13:19.22. The race was won by Eritrea's Tadesse Zersenay in 13:11.07 from Switzerland's Christian Belz.
