Osaka will become the second Japanese city to stage the World Athletics Championships when it hosts the 2007 event. The decision was announced in Monte Carlo today. The Japanese delegation convinced the IAAF's Council that, with only two of the first ten championships being held outside Europe, Osaka could provide the necessary organisational skills.
Paris hosts the event next year, while Helsinki is the host city in 2005.
