Sonia scores second silver in Munich

Sonia O'Sullivan scored her second silver of the European Championships when she was pipped by Spain's Marta Dominguez in a dramatic finale in the 5,000 metres in Munich this afternoon. O'Sullivan, the defending champion, was looking to improve on her 10,000m silver medal and looked set to retain her crown when she took the lead coming into the home straight of what was a tactically slow race. However, with the finishing line in her sights, the Cobh athlete was caught by the European indoor 3,000m champion who produced a powerful finish to take gold in a time of 15 minutes 14.76 seconds.

Una English and Maria McCambridge finished well off the pace, in 15th and 19th respectively.
