World record holder Maurice Greene set the stage for his first showdown with American compatriot Tim Montgomery in a year when he said that he would run the 100 metres at next weekend's US national championships in Palo Alto, California. The two fastest Americans ever have not met since a hobbling Greene defeated challenger Montgomery for the world title last August in Edmonton, Canada.
"I'll be in the 100," Greene told Reuters in a telephone interview from his home near Los Angeles on Friday. Earlier, Greene had talked about running the 200 metres in the June 21-23 U.S. championships but the Olympic champion said a 100-metre race would best prepare him for Oslo's opening meeting of the Golden League series on June 28.
