Curley wins Womens' Mini Marathon

The Tesco-Evening Herald Womens' Mini Marathon was won by Paulene Curley of the Tullamore Harriers in a time of 34 minutes 20 seconds. 35,500 participants took part in the event held on the streets of Dublin as Curley finished with plenty to spare ahead of Geraldine Hendricken from Carlow. Annette Kealy of Raheny finished in third place.

The first Min-Marathon took place in 1983 and is the biggest women only sporting event in the World. The big winners in the race are charities with an estimated IR£9m raised in the last two years. There were two categories, walking – and more the more ambitious – running. The latter category has been won in the past by top athletes Catriona McKiernan and Sonia O'Sullivan. The race began at at Fitzwilliam Square stretching over 10 kilometres of Dublin's southside.
