The Newbridge athlete Karen Shinkins has put herself firmly in the limelight by clocking the fastest time in the world this year over 400 metres. Shinkins set a new Irish record at the Blacksburg Invitational Indoor meeting in Virginia last weekend.
The Irish athlete, now based in Atlanta, clocked 51.58 seconds, a time which will make her one of the favourites for the gold medal at the European Indoor Championships in Vienna in three weeks time.
