Veteran British triple jump champion Jonathan Edwards struck gold once again as he powered his way to victory in Canada overnight. The 35-year-old lived up to his billing as hot favourite for this event by winning with a jump of 17.92 metres to add the world title to his Olympic crown.
It gave Britain's injury-hit squad the medal-winning boost they needed on the fourth day of the World Championships, as they claimed their first medal. Edwards banked the gold as early as the third round of the final, and his winning leap was the best in the world this year, beating the mark of 17.68m which he had set himself.
