Olympic champion Jonathan Edwards was today beaten to the gold medal in the triple jump at the World Indoor Championships in Lisbon. In what was a tight contest between Edwards and the eventual winner Paolo Camossi, the lead changed four times.
Camossi stole gold with his jump in the fourth round - an impressive leap of 17.32 metres - and he also broke the Italian indoor record he set in the European Championships last year. Third-placed Andrew Murphy of Australia twice broke his country's record on the way to the bronze medal.
