A statement on whether the Leopardstown Racecourse will stage the IAAF World Cross-Country Championships on March 24-25 is expected tomorrow after top level talks were held today. A decision was expected today but the Athletics Association of Ireland (AAI) were awaiting more information before a final decision was made.
However, the management of Leopardstown Racecourse said that the event will not go ahead at the venue as long as the ban on horseracing remains in place.
Earlier it was announced that Brussels is the leading candidate to stage the championships if the event is switched from Dublin, with Spain also a possibility.
However there are also fears of the possibility that the championships could be cancelled if they were not staged in Dublin because of the difficulties in reorganising transport and accommodation.
