Over 800 athletes have submitted preliminary entries to the 29th IAAF World Cross-Country Championships in Dublin next month in the Leopardstown racecourse in Dublin. All the key nations including Kenya, Britain, USA, Canada, France, Spain, Morrocco and Ethiopia are sending teams of 36 athletes each to compete in the men’s and women’s junior and senior races and compete for a prize fund of $560,000.
Kenya’s Paul Tergat will spearhead the men’s event and hopes to capture a record sixth individual record prize. His team will be looking to get their 16th consecutive win in the long course.
Sonia O’Sullivan heads the Irish team although she is still undecided if she will run in the short or long course. It is expected that the rest of the Irish women’s team will be finalising their event when O’Sullivan clarifies hers.
Final entries for the event must be submitted by March 13th.
