Leopardstown will host racing of a different kind this March when the World Cross Country Championships take place at the Dublin racecourse. It will be the first time this event has been held in the Republic since John Treacy's thrilling victory in 1979. Olympic silver medallist Sonia O'Sullivan has confirmed that she will participate in the race.
Over 1000 athletes will take part from about 80 different countries, competing for a prize fund of $565,000. The competition will take place over two days, March 24 and 25. Up to 15,000 spectators can be accommodated at the racetrack but they will have to view the action from the stands or enclosures as no one will be allowed on to the course.
