Athletics: O'Sullivan surprise winner of Dublin City Mara

Sonia O’Sullivan not only made a surprise appearance at the Dublin City Marathon this morning, but the Olympic 5000m silver medalist delighted the large crowd with a convincing victory in the ladies elite section. The Cobh athlete, who only decided to run last night, came home in a time of 2:30.40, ahead of a strong field.

In wet and blustery conditions in the capital, Scotland’s Simon Pride won the men’s section, coming home in an impressive time of 2:18.40. Jamie Lewis was the first Irishman home in fifth, almost three minutes behind, while the wheelchair races were won by Gerard Connolly and Eimear Patten.
