Athletics: O'Sullivan for Paris

Sonia O'Sullivan is a late entry for the Golden League meeting, the St. Denis Grand Prix, on Friday. It is the first of the Golden Series of the season in Paris where Sonia will run in the 3,000 metres, after her entry was confirmed by the organising committee.

Her participation had been in doubt because the maximum of 16 runners had confirmed their participation in the event. However yesterday news filtered through that a lane had become free, and that she would have the chance to improve on her winning ways which saw her win in Helsinki last Thursday night, although this race is likely to be a stiffer test. Among the entries are the Ethiopian World Champion Gete Wami and her old friend and adversary from Britain, Paula Radcliffe.

Elsewhere, the Irish Athletics Association have announced that Sarah Reilly, the wife of the former British high jumper, Brendan Reilly, has followed in the footsteps of her husband, and has switched her allegiance to Ireland instead of Britain. The 27 year old sprinter has personal bests of 11.51 for the 100 metres and 23.20 for the 200.
