The IAAF has suspended Linford Christie, Dougie Walker and Gary Cadogan from future competition while their alleged doping offences go to arbitration. The world governing body of athletics made the announcement tonight in a press release after discussions at its extraordinary meeting in Monte Carlo.
The statement read: "The IAAF Council...has decided to amend IAAF Rule 59.2 (Disciplinary Procedures for Doping Offences). As of midnight on February 13, any athlete who has been cleared by his or her national federation of a doping offence, but whose case has been sent to arbitration by the IAAF, will now be suspended from competition until the conclusion of that arbitration."
The statement details that the cases of Cadogan (Great Britain), Walker (Great Britain), Christie (Great Britain), Itai Margalit (Israel), Andre Luiz Ramos (Brazil) and Javier Sotomayor (Cuba) were sent to arbitration by IAAF Council on November 18-19 last year. But the statement added that the council had today also decided to refer the case of Jamaican sprint queen Merlene Ottey to arbitration.
