Athletics: Cheromei wins IAAF Cross Country

Kenya's Lydia Cheromei was a runaway winner of yesterday's IAAF Cross Country in Brussels with a time of 20:30 over 6k. She finished ahead of Kenyan, Ayelech Worku 20:52. Commonwealth 1500 champion Jackline Maranga, finished two seconds down on the Ethiopian. Catherina McKiernan, Ireland's former Flora London Marathon winner and four times overall champion of the IAAF Cross Challenge series, was fifth in 20:59.

The men’s race was won by Eduardo Henrqiues in a time of 32:37 over the very muddy 10.5K course, 10 seconds ahead of his Portugese team-mate Paulo Guerra. Guerra had beaten Henriques in Slovenia last weekend to win a third European Cross Country crown. Richard Limo of Kenya was third in 32:54 with Sheffield's battling Brown in fourth place holding off three top Africans, including the World Cross Country silver medallist Patrick Ivuti from Kenya.
