Madeline Perry advanced to the semi-finals of the Cannon Kirk Homes Irish Squash Open at Fitzwilliam with a comfortable three games to love win over eighth seed Manuel Manetta.
World number three and top seed Perry was too consistent for Manetta displaying some clinical and efficient squash especially with the use of her drop shot.
Manetta proved too inconsistent to ever trouble the four times winner of the Irish open.
Perry will face Jacklyn Hawkes of New Zealand in Friday’s semi-final after third seed Hawkes was too strong for Dominique Lloyd-Walter.
However, there was defeat for Aisling Blake against second seed Vanessa Atkinson. Sixth seed Blake lost a close four-game encounter against Atkinson who is a former winner of this tournament.
Atkinson, who is retiring from squash after this tournament, shaded a tight match playing the big points better at the closing end of each game.
Former world number one, Atkinson will play fourth seed Nour El Tayeb of Egypt in the semi-final. El Tayeb had a comfortable victory over qualifier Tenille Swartz.
In the men’s tournament, top seed Stewart Boswell of Australia qualified for the semi-finals after a tough 3-2 win over England’s Chris Ryder. Ryder, who is number 30 in the world came from two games to love down to equal the match at 2-2 before Boswell powered to a 11/2 victory in the deciding game.
Boswell will play Borja Golan of Spain in Friday’s semi final. Golan, a previous winner of the event and finalist last year, beat Mathieu Castagnet of France by three games to love.
