Irish just miss out at badminton Worlds

It was a day of narrow defeats for the Irish competitors at the World Badminton Championships in Paris.

In the first round of the womens singles, Chloe Magee lost 21/18, 21/13 to Anna Rice of Canada.

Magee and her brother Sam lost 21/17, 21/16 to a Chinese pair in the first round of the Mixed Doubles and in the Men's Doubles, Sam Magee and Tony Stephenson lost 21/18, 21/17 to a Ukrainian combination.

Scott Evans opens his mens singles campaign on Tuesday morning when he takes on Hsuan Yi Hsueh from Taipei.

They are due on court at twenty-five past nine Irish time.
