Scott Evans has advanced to the second round of the World Badminton Championships on Monday in Hyderabad, India, but Chloe Magee is out after a comprehensive defeat.
Evans, a member of Ireland’s Beijing Olympics team last year, beat Russia’s Vladimir Malkov 21-9, 22-20 to go through to the final 32. Evans is currently ranked 69th in the world.
He could face tenth seed Yan Kit Chan in the next stage.
Magee was also in China but she came unstuck against Japense player Ai Goto 21-13 21-9.
