Michael Phelps put on another astonishing performance to break his own world record in the 200-metres individual medley at the US Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska.

The 23-year-old, who is expected to bid for eight gold medals in Beijing next month, clocked one minute 54.80 seconds to beat his own previous mark by 0.18secs and win the 200m IM ahead of Ryan Lochte, who recorded a time of 1:55.22.

It was the second sensational dual between the pair following Sunday's 400m IM final, in which both swimmers surpassed the previous world record, with Phelps finishing first in 4:05.25.
