Murphy falls short of Olympic time

Barry Murphy broke the Irish record in the Men's 50 metres freestyle in a meet in Nashville Tennessee.

However his time of 22.59 seconds remains frustratingly short of the Olympic qualifying mark of 22.35 seconds.

Murphy bettered the time he set at the Dutch Open two weeks ago.

Andrew Brew set a new Irish record in the Men's 200 metres individual medley of 2:04.43 seconds and remains the only Irish swimmer to have qualified for Beijing.
