World number one Mark Webster ended Martin Adams' reign as BDO world champion with a thrilling semi-final victory at Frimley Green.

The Welshman held off a superb comeback from the England captain to go through to tomorrow's final 6-4.

Adams had hit back strongly to win four sets in succession after Webster's fine start had propelled him into a 3-0 lead.

But Webster proved too good in the end and recovered to take the next three sets.

Adams was diplomatic in defeat and told BBC Sport: ‘It is just one of those things, it's darts.

‘When you get beaten in one of those games you don't mind, it's when you get beaten and you've played badly it hurts. C'est la vie.’

Webster, who will now play unseeded Australian Simon Whitlock in the final, admitted he could hardly believe his success.

The left-hander said on BBC Sport: ‘I went three sets up and felt confident but then he came back and I thought I had gone.

‘I just plugged away and worked my way back in. I am thrilled, made up. I can't believe it.’

The hirsute Whitlock continued his fairytale run at the tournament with a 6-3 victory over 11th seed Brian Woods in the second semi-final.

The 2005 semi-finalist led 5-1 before a brief rally from his opponent delayed his progress.

Whitlock said: ‘I just feel happiness and relief - it's hard to explain but it's a great feeling.

‘He came back well but all I said to myself was play the big legs well and I'd win, and I did that.’
