Neil Robertson held his nerve to defeat Andrew Higginson and win the Welsh Open tonight 9-8.
Robertson, a 25-year-old Australian, was in complete control of the contest at the end of the afternoon session at the Newport Centre when he led 6-2.
But 29-year-old Higginson, a 500-1 pre-tournament outsider, won six frames in a row to turn the contest on its head and move to within one frame of victory.
However, left-hander Robertson regained his touch and a clearance of 92 in the 15th frame closed the gap to a single frame, and he produced a decisive break of 59 in the following frame to take the contest the distance.
And Robertson held his nerve in the 17th and final frame to claim the £35,000 first prize and edge out the Liverpool fan from Widnes.
