Luiz Felipe Scolari has rejected an offer to return as coach of Brazil, according to a report in the Brazilian media.

The O Globo newspaper reported that the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has approached Portugal coach Scolari to replace Carlos Alberto Parreira, who has accepted responsibility for Brazil's disappointing performance at the World Cup but remains in charge.

Brazil were knocked out in a 1-0 defeat to France in the quarter-finals.

The CBF are believed to have offered Scolari a contract until 2014 - the year in which Brazil is widely expected to host the World Cup - and the coach took two days before telling CBF president Ricardo Teixeira he does not want to move his family back to Brazil.

O Globo claimed that Teixeira met with Scolari in Barcelona after Scolari's team reached the World Cup semi-finals, where they lost to France before losing the third-place play-off to hosts Germany.

Scolari and his parents live in Cascais, 30kms west of Lisbon, and his two children are both studying in Europe.

Scolari guided Brazil to World Cup glory in Japan and Korea in 2002, and has continued to impress with Portugal, reaching the Euro 2004 final.

Their defeat to France in the World Cup semi-finals was their first in 18 games.
