Scotland pulled off their second shock win of this year's RBS 6 Nations Championship with a magnificent 18-12 win over England at Murrayfield.

Chris Paterson kicked five penalties and Dan Parks added a dropped-goal as the Scots proved their opening day win over France was no fluke by inflicting England's first defeat of the tournament.

Charlie Hodgson kicked four penalties for England, but they were outgunned in front of 67,500 people at Murrayfield.

Sean Lamont was penalised for a high tackle after 61 minutes and Hodgson kicked his third penalty to make it 12-9 to Scotland.

Ellis returned to the field from the blood bin in the 62nd minute as England desperately tried to gain some control of the game.

England replaced their captain Martin Corry with the talismanic figure of Lawrence Dallaglio after 63 minutes as coach Andy Robinson looked to alter the course of the match.

Frank Hadden threw Leeds fly-half Gordon Ross on along with scrum-half Chris Cusiter with 15 minutes to play and Simon Shaw replaced Grewcock for England, but despite the raft of substitutions, the pattern of the game remained the same, with Scotland edging closer to a famous win.

They could have closed the game out with 10 minutes to play but Lewis Moody pulled off a sensational tackle on Ali Hogg in the corner.

However, it was not long before Scotland extended their lead when Shaw was penalised at the ruck and Paterson kicked his fourth penalty of the game.

England were awarded a penalty with five minutes remaining and opted to kick for goal rather than go for touch, and Hodgson made no mistake to make it 15-12.

But the game was up for England when they were penalised in front of the posts and Paterson kicked his fifth penalty of the game to make it 18-12 with two minutes left.
