Dubliner Ciaran Ryan became Ireland's first ever Tae-Kwon-Do Sparring Senior World champion tonight, in Dortmund, Germany.
Earlier in the day he defeated opponents from Paraguay, Brazil, and Japan and in the semi-final he fought defending champion Neill Earnest from Wales, winning after a very tight contest.
His final opponent was from Greece and going into the final round the contest was a draw but a flurry of punches in the last minute swung the verdict in Ryan's favour.
The 17-year old returns to Dublin on Monday night before which he is required by the Irish team to compete in the final event of the Championships, the team Sparring.
