Crowd favourite Colin Lloyd produced a devastating display in Dublin tonight to win the Skybet World Grand Prix final - his first major title.
The 31-year-old, who became a full-time professional after the Ladbrokes.com World Championship earlier this year, outclassed former champion Alan Warriner to wrap up a 7-3 victory at the Citywest Hotel.
The man affectionately known as 'Jaws' fell to his knees after landing the winning dart, and Warriner was quick to embrace his friend at the oche.
Lloyd made a positive start and registered three maximums in the opening set, which he edged 3-2 with a successful attempt at double 16.
The second also went to a deciding leg before Lloyd produced a superb 150 checkout to open up a two-set advantage.
Warriner, who defeated Roland Scholten in the final three years ago, got the crowd to their feet with a 110 checkout in the next set. But Lloyd was well and truly in the zone, taking out 116 to move further ahead in his first major final.
'The Iceman' showed coolness under pressure to take out 101 on his way to a 3-1 success in the fourth. However, 31-year-old Lloyd quickly regained his focus and dominated the next two sets. He averaged 98.70 in the fifth, which included three 180s, and then reeled off the next three legs.
Warriner is a gutsy competitor and he nailed double 16, eight and five to reduce the deficit. The next two sets were shared to keep Warriner in the contest, but Lloyd dominated the 10th set and finished the game off with double top to spark wild celebrations.
