Taylor powers to 11th World Championship

England's Phil Taylor clinched his 11th world darts title in a thrilling final on Sunday when he beat fellow countryman Kevin Painter 7-6 in a sudden-death finish.

'The Power' Taylor, who had lost 7-6 in last year's final to John Peart, had trailed 4-1 and 5-3 earlier in the final as Painter dominated the early stages of the match-up at Purley in Essex.

But Taylor, appearing in his 13th final, eventually made his experience show by fighting back to lead 6-5. Painter clung on to level at 6-6 and had plenty of opportunities in the final set to take his first title but his nerve failed him.

At 6-6 as the match went into sudden-death and Taylor finished off his opponent with a double-five conclusion:

"I am a very lucky man to be honest", reflected Taylor.

"Kevin out-played me on doubles, but he eventually let me in. I thought Kevin was the better player. Last year was a good final, but this is one of the best."
