Number 1 seed Liam Kenny's hopes of claiming the Irish National Championship title were ended when his flight from the World Championships in Pakistan was delayed for a second time by fog.
Kenny initially had his first round match with Ross Lillis at the Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club put back to this morning, but Lilis has now been given a walkover into the second round. Lillis, a 19-year-old from Galway, will now face Leinster's hard-hitting Nigel Peyton.
Seven times winner Derek Ryan scored a comfortable 3-0 win over Rob Staunton on day one of the Irish National Championships at Dublin's Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club on Friday.
Elsewhere, number 3 seed John Rooney, just back from winning the qualifers at the World Championships in Pakistan, overcame Nick Staunton on a similar scoreline.
Meanwhile, Stevie Richardson, last year's winner, beat Rory Byrne 3-0, while there were also wins for Patrick Foster, Niall Rooney, Neal Murphy and a surprise win for John Hurley.
Number 1 seed Madeline Perry, the world number 19, enjoyed a comfortable opening round 3-0 victory over Jenny Moore at the National Championships at the Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club in Dublin on Friday.
Aisling Blake, seeded second and ranked 61st in the world, also beat Aoife Kerrin 3-0, while Aisling McArdle overcame Fiona Parker on a similar scorline.
Meanwhile, there were also wins for Laura Mylotte over Kerri Shields, Anna McKeever over Katie Wilson and Niki Ann McDowell over Tanya Loughran. Tanya Owens had a walk-over against the injured Jennifer Dillon.
