Phil Taylor powered his way into the third round of the PDC Ladbrokes.com World Championship at Purfleet's Circus Tavern with a 4-1 victory over American Steve Brown. The 10-times world champion remains on course for his ninth successive world title with a blistering display, posting a three-dart average of more than 103. He hit six 180s and was always in control, underlining why he is the overwhelming favourite to win another world championship.
Brown opened the match with a maximum 180, and went on to hit seven altogether, but Taylor was unfazed and won the next three legs to claim the set. The Power' then breezed through the second set 3-0 before Brown deservedly won the third set without dropping a leg. However, Taylor also upped his game in response to this and duly won the next six legs without reply to wrap up a convincing victory.
Taylor will now face 29-year-old Wayne Mardle who enhanced his growing reputation with a superb 4-3 success against Peter Evison in the second round.
