Salzburg and Vancouver became the firm favourites in the battle to host the 2010 Winter Olympic Games when the IOC slashed the number of bid cities from eight to four. Also in the running to host the games is the Swiss city of Bern and Pyeongchang of South Korea.
The IOC's executive committee rejected bids from Andorra, Harbin in China, Jaca in Spain and Sarajevo. The four accepted cities will now have to pay $500,000 each to the IOC for the right to try and win the Games. The winner will be decided by the IOC Session in July 2003 in Prague.
