Baseball: Irish beaten in Euro opener

Ireland's baseballers suffered an 8-4 defeat to Austria in their opening European Championship match in Sweden this evening. The Irish team, managed by Mick Manning and co-captained by John Dillon and Sean Mitchell, performed well but ultimately fell to a well-tuned Austrian team.

Ireland play Lithuania tomorrow before their final group match against Finland on Thursday, with the final to be played on Saturday. This is Ireland's fourth appearance at the finals since their debut in England in 1996. The finals are held every second year.
