Aussie Rules: Disgraced Carey to stay away

Australian Rules football's fallen idol Wayne Carey has dismissed speculation he would make a comeback in a lower competition after quitting the national league in disgrace over an affair. The 30-year-old, one of the most recognisable faces in Australian sport, tearfully quit the Kangaroos on March 13 after it was revealed he was having an affair with the wife of his vice-captain and best mate Anthony Stevens.

Carey's one-year marriage to wife Sally has been placed under strain since the affair became public. But in a statement released today, Carey admitted he would not be returning to the pitch for the foreseeable future. He confirmed: "I do not intend to play at any level in the immediate future."
