Switzerland's Simon Ammann gave his countrymen plenty to cheer about as his final jump of 133.0 meters secured another gold, this time in the K120 event. His first was on Sunday in the K90 event. Ammann was level with Sven Hannawald of Germany after the first round but his final jump ensured his second gold in three days to equal the two-gold feat of Finn Matti Nykanen at the 1988 Calgary Games.
Poland’s Adam Malysz took the silver medal with jumps of 131m and 128m, while Matti Hautamaeki of Finland took the bronze after soaring to 127m and 125.5m. Ammann, who is 20 and competing in his second Olympic Games was well worthy of his place in the record books with jumps of 132.5m and 133m.
