Darts: Part powers through Paddy Power

Former World Champion, John Part, was given a scare by Denis Ovens today in Dublin, before running out the winner. Part, competing in the Paddy Power World Grand Prix, took the first set, but Ovens shocked the Canadian, by taking the second. Part then swept his opponent aside in the next, and finished him off with aplomb in the deciding set.

Part said: "I was expecting a tough game because he is one of the most consistent English players that has ever played the game. He is very dangerous and I expect him to play well and he did play fairly well. But I was up to the challenge today."

Part will now meet Holland's Roland Scholten, who claimed his place in the quarter-finals with a routine 3-0 win over Mick Mannings. 'Diamond' Dave Askew, also booked his place in the quarter-finals with a 3-0 win over qualifier Ian Cullingworth today. The number seven seed completed the victory with a 120 checkout.

Martin Adams easily beat Alex Roy, 3-0, in Dublin today. Adams continued where he left off against Peter Manley and claimed the win in double-quick time. The 45-year-old will face either Steve Beaton or darts legend John Lowe tomorrow night and he is ready for the challenge. He insisted: "I will play anybody now, I don't mind who it is."
